In the modern era, technology is developing at a quicker pace. To satisfy the needs of the customer, each company is trying to introduce some new features.

Google is a well known established company and is known to the majority of the people in the world. Google is currently developing a new dark mode skin for its browser Google Chrome.

 

Details on dark mode feature of Google Chrome browser:

Google dark mode skin feature is under development and is available through Google Canary distributions. These Google Canary distributions are the versions are nothing but new release having the latest stuff which is not tested thoroughly. To download Google Chrome Canary version click here.

The main use of this dark mode skin feature for Google Chrome browser is to reduce the strain of the people who uses computer. Another use of this dark mode skin is to reduce the battery consumption.

Google is developing this dark mode feature in such a way that the browser automatically changes to this dark mode based on the User Interface of the operating system. It also provides provision to change theme of Google Chrome browser theme to dark permanently irrespective of the theme of the operating system theme.

The development of this dark mode feature for Google Chrome browser is started in late September 2018 when the Mac OS Mojave included support for dark UI skin for the system. Then Google developed the dark skin feature for its browser on Mac OS in December 2018.

Using dark mode feature on Google Chrome browser in Mac OS:

At present, there is no option in settings panel of the Google Chrome to change from light to dark theme. To switch between dark and light mode for the Chrome browser, add ‘--enable feature = DarkMode’ flag at the end of Chrome canary executable on Mac OS.

To make this dark skin permanent for the browser, use ‘--force-dark-mode’ flag at end of the Chrome canary executable on Mac OS.

Using dark mode feature on Google Chrome browser in Windows 10:

As per the Chromium Source code commit , ‘--force-dark-mode’ flag is added to the canary version of the Google Chrome for Windows 10 Users. This ‘--force-dark-mode’ flag permanently changes the theme of the browser to dark irrespective of the theme of the windows.

At present, there is no option in settings panel of the Google Chrome to change from light to dark theme. Follow the below steps to change theme of the Chrome browser to dark permanently:
  • Find the location of the shortcut that starts Google Chrome canary browser
  • Do the right click on the icon and select Properties
  • In the Target field of the Properties window, add ‘--force-dark-mode’ flag
  • Click Apply button and then followed by OK.
  • Start Google Chrome canary browser
This feature is expected to be released in later this year. But currently, there is no official release data for this feature.
